The project is the entrance structure to a new convention centre located on the main campus at Education City in Doha. The steelwork structure is based on the Sidra tree which is the symbol of the Qatar Foundation.
The complex tree-like steel structures support the roof of the entrance foyer to the new national convention centre which is being constructed on site. The trees are of free form geometry and constructed of fabricated box girders clad in singly and doubly curved steel plates.
Located at 20m above ground level the roof measures 250m in length by 30m in width and is supported on only two of the steel ‘trees’. The completed structure will form the focal point of the new Qatar Foundation project and is a major analytical and engineering challenge.
