Al Sowa Island

Al Sowa island is a 54hectare island site located on the eastern side of Abu Dhabi Island. To the east of the Island lies Al Reem Island which is currently planed for a large mixed use development.

The masterplan for the site includes the development of a new financial district including the relocation of the existing City Stock Exchange. The development will also have a mix of retail and leisure. To the south of the island a new 600 bed hospital and clinic is planned that will be operated by the Cleveland Clinic.
Challenges on this masterplan was primarily associated with access and provision of infrastructure. The site will have 2 new bridges spanning the surrounding waterways to link into the city infrastructure.
